Psalm 31:24
Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
There are times when we feel discouraged, afraid, or too timid to step forward. Not everyone accepts us, and not every situation turns out the way we planned. In those moments, the psalmist encourages us to be of good courage.
We are not asked to rely on our own strength, but to place our hope in the Lord. As we trust Him, He strengthens our hearts and gives us the courage to face every challenge, knowing that His presence goes with us.
David’s life is a beautiful example of this truth. Though he was the youngest in his family, his own father overlooked him when the prophet Samuel came to anoint the next king of Israel (1 Samuel 16:11-13). Yet God saw what others did not.
As a young shepherd, David trusted the Lord, who gave him the strength to kill both the lion and the bear (1 Samuel 17:34-37). Later, when he stood before Goliath, it was not his size or ability that gave him confidence, but his faith in the living God (1 Samuel 17:45-47). The same David who worshipped God with his harp also played before King Saul, and the evil spirit troubling Saul departed (1 Samuel 16:23).
The God who strengthened David is the same God who strengthens us today. As we put our hope in Him, He gives us courage for every season of life. Let us move forward in faith, trusting that the Lord will strengthen our hearts and lead us every step of the way.
