Psalm 146:5
Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God.
What a blessing it is to have someone we can call upon in times of trouble. Many people around us struggle to find someone who will truly listen, understand, or help them when life becomes difficult. Some turn to different gods or worldly solutions, hoping to find answers. But there is no one like our God.
He is the living God who dwells within us through His Holy Spirit. He invites us to call upon Him, saying, “Call to Me, and I will answer you” (Jeremiah 33:3). Our God is a God who hears and answers prayer. That is why we are truly blessed, for our Helper is the Maker of heaven and earth.
Oftentimes, our own thoughts keep us from praying. Guilt, shame, and the awareness of our sins make us feel unworthy to approach God. Yet the psalm points us to the God of Jacob.
Jacob was a deceiver and a schemer, far from perfect. Still, in His mercy and grace, God chose Jacob, transformed his life, and fulfilled His covenant through his descendants. God did not choose Jacob because he was worthy. He chose him because of His unfailing love and purpose.
The same God welcomes us today. He is the God of imperfect people who are made righteous through His grace. Therefore, let us come boldly to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16), ask for His help, and place our hope in Him. Our God delights in showing mercy to those who seek Him.
