1 Corinthians 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Have you ever spoken to someone about God, only to be met with resistance, mockery, or indifference? Many today are so entangled in the pleasures and distractions of this world that they have become blind to the eternal truth. The Bible refers to such people as those who are perishing, unable to see the value of the cross.
For instance, a boy enters a lavish casino where he is welcomed with a drink and a donut. Unknown to him, these are laced with something that dulls his sense of time. Days pass, but he feels only moments. When he finally sees a newspaper, he realizes how long he has been trapped. This story illustrates how the enemy uses the pleasures of this world to blind people to spiritual reality.
Scripture tells us that “the god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers” (2 Corinthians 4:4). Satan has made the world enticing, drawing many into sin and away from God. But for those who have tasted the goodness of Christ, our eyes have been opened. We now walk not according to the flesh, but by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16).
As believers, we are called to live responsibly, acknowledging God’s presence in every area of life. There is true freedom in the boundaries God has set through His Word. Through the gospel, we see the difference between right and wrong, not by the world’s shifting standards, but by God’s eternal truth.
Let us keep our eyes fixed on the cross, and lovingly lead others to the Saviour who helped us see.
