Titus 3:4-5

When the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God!” (Romans 3:23). What a terrible indictment against all humanity. None of our good credentials could cancel this judgment, since sin stains every act of humanity.

But thanks be to Christ, the perfect One, we have been delivered from the clutches of sin and death (Romans 7:24-25). None of us deserves even an ounce of His goodness. We have nothing to boast about. Therefore, there is no room for spiritual pride. The ground is level for everyone at the foot of the cross.

Think for a moment. Where would we be if not for God’s mercy? We were living as foolish, disobedient, deceived people (Titus 3:3). Then, one blessed day, His kindness and mercy converged into our lives. It changed the entire trajectory of our lives, on earth and beyond. God wooed us to Himself and made us His very own treasure.

Every answered prayer, impossible healing, open door in the hour of desperation, and miraculous provision is a gracious manifestation of His lovingkindness. And we remain unaware of His many silent interventions – how He protects us by keeping danger far from us, and fights unseen battles on our behalf!

In the light of such lovingkindness, how should we live? With a heart of humility and gratitude, remembering that we are God’s workmanship. Therefore, let us do the good works He’s prepared for us before we bid goodbye to this earthly life (Ephesians 2:10).

Ultimately, the undeniable hero of all our testimonies is Christ, and not us. Come, let us boast about our Lord. Let’s display our Saviour in all His glory for the world to see.
