A Wall of Fire

Zechariah 2:5 – For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her. (KJV)

In ancient days, cities needed protection from enemies and walls were built around them. And some believe that walls of fire were a way to protect people from predators (like lions) when in the wilderness.

Walls also mean Salvation as we read in Isaiah 26:1 “We have a strong city, Salvation is established as its walls and ramparts.”  The new Jerusalem is being measured. A multitude that no one can count will inhabit within the city. It is God’s will that more people are saved and brought to live within these city walls that need flexibility to expand as more and more people are drawn into it.

Though these are not walls made by the hands or means that men know, they are the safest walls that can be, since the LORD himself will be like a wall of fire that cannot be penetrated or damaged.  The LORD Almighty will be our protection and the Glory of the LORD will be in the midst of the city. The glorious and protective presence of the LORD will be our refuge and our defense and no one will be able to come near us.

“Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of men and livestock in it. And I myself will be a wall of fire around it, ’declares the LORD, ‘and I will be its glory within.’” (Zechariah 2:4-5)
