Abide and Receive

John 15:7 – “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

Extravagant gift giving in our culture is usually restricted to people we know, love and have a relationship with. Parents shower their kids with gifts for their birthdays, couples plan surprises for their anniversaries, and adult children bless their elderly parents with meaningful experiences they’ll cherish for the rest of their lives.

God gave us the most extravagant gift of all – the life of His only beloved Son. It’s because of Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross that we are now sons and daughters of the Most High God. We now enjoy an intimate relationship with our Father – what a blessing that is! Jesus said that when we abide in Him and His words abide in us, we can ask Him whatever we desire and He will do it for us. When we remain in Christ and we’re filled with His truth, we take on His nature as well. We will cease to desire earthly things and choose what God wants for us instead.

Psalm 37:4 says that when you delight in the Lord, He will give you the desires of our heart. When you abide in Christ, He will align your desires with His will and freely grant them to you in His perfect time. If you are waiting to receive the fruit of God’s promise to you, do not become weary. Remain faithful to the Lord, ask Him for what you need and you will receive.
