Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, like the latter and former rain to the earth. Hosea 6:3
The Lord is a faithful, covenant-keeping God. To acknowledge Him is to regard Him as Who He is and what He has done, is doing, and will do.
When we acknowledge God, we agree with His commands and seek to obey His will for His purposes. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Who we are in Christ is based upon how faithful we are to follow the Lord and strive to live a life of submission to Him.
The goal of the life of every person God has created is to KNOW HIM. So let us press in TO KNOW THE LORD.”
Jesus said in John 17:3, “This is eternal life, that they may Know Him, the only true God.” The Bible says repeatedly that THIS is the goal; THIS is what we were created for to Know God. God made us to know Him and walk with Him in fellowship, just like Adam & Eve did in the Garden of Eden.
Press on” is a Hebrew word which means “to pursue” or “to chase.”If we are going to make progress in our goal of knowing the Lord, we are going to have to work, we are going to have to strive, we are going to have to pursue God; we are going to have to give Him the time that it takes to know Him. There is no substitute for it. It will not “just happen” accidentally. You will either get it by pursuing it relentlessly every day or you will not have it at all. Hosea says here it will require effort: we must “PRESS ON to know the Lord.”
This is almost exactly what the Apostle Paul says in Philippians 3:12, “I PRESS ON (The same words we find here!) that I may lay hold of that for which I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus (he said earlier that goal was “that I may know Him”).
God promises the certainty of success in our goal. The second part of this verse turns from the encouragement to pursue this goal of knowing God, to the promise it holds if you will do it: His going forth is as certain as the dawn; and He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain watering the earth”! God promises us he will send His provision in every season of our lives. For who know their God will see victory, that the dark night will break forth in dawn.
