Psalm 71:5 – “For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth.”
What does hope mean to you? The dictionary defines hope, as “a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen”. All of us have hopes and desires for ourselves and our loved ones. We wish certain things would happen in our future. It is disappointing when our hopes are delayed, but when they do come true, it brings us joy (Proverbs 13:12).
There’s nothing wrong with having hope for a better future; in fact, we must have hope. But we must be cautious where our hopes lie. Do you hope for a better life because you’ve earned it, you deserve it or you’re qualified for it? Or do you believe your future is secure because Jesus is the Lord over your life?
When we place our hope on our own achievements and abilities, we’re sure to be disappointed. The world is an unfair place, and things don’t always pan out the way we want. But when we trust in the Lord, He becomes our unfailing hope. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He rules over all the earth – nations and corporations are under His power. Let the Lord Jesus Christ be your hope. Trust in Him and you will not be put to shame (Romans 10:11).
