Sheep in God’s Pasture

Psalm 79:13 – “So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture, Will give You thanks forever; We will show forth Your praise to all generations.”

Ever wonder what might happen if a sheep just wandered off from its flock? Perhaps it was drawn away by some sweet-smelling flowers or a winged insect that caught its eye. What seemed to be a casual saunter away from the shepherd’s purview would soon turn dangerous for the sheep.

Out of the shepherd’s sight, the sheep is an easy target for wild animals. Unsheltered from the elements and unsure of the path, it could easily get hurt or fall ill. But imagine the joy it would feel when the shepherd came looking for it, tenderly lifted it up and carried it back home.

Doesn’t that tale sound too familiar?

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)

We’ve all gone astray at some point or the other in our lives… but Jesus came looking for you and me. He gave up His life on the cross, and brought us back into His pasture through His sacrifice. The Lord has made us His own sons and daughters, members of His own family and we’ll get to spend eternity in our heavenly home.

Let’s take a few minutes to thank the Lord for bringing us into His pasture. And then, let’s work on drawing other lost sheep closer to the Good Shepherd.
