Closer than ever before

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Romans 8:15

Identity could be the qualities and beliefs one person has that distinguishes them from another. It sounds simple, but our identity is the core of who we are. Everything we do and say stems from who we believe we are. Who we identify ourselves as, affects every area of our life.

When God created our identity, He fashioned it to be constant and unchanging. He designed it this way so that His children could walk in freedom and confidence, knowing that, they are forever loved, useful, and powerful because of His spirit in them. If we choose to reject His truth, for whatever reason, we are left defining our identity by things like life experiences, opinions, people, bank accounts, and even abilities. We become desperate souls, seeking to be somebody but we will always fall short of feeling secure and strong.

Identity always comes with a sense of authority, and what can be better when our identity comes from God Himself. When Jesus conquered death, we were made citizens of heaven as heirs of Christ. It was through His crucifixion we were adopted into God’s family and we were then given the spirit of adoption that breaks free from bondage and fear as we connect and call out to our Abba Father, through Christ Jesus. Therefore the sooner we realize that our identity is in God, the sooner we can live the lives He has ordained us to fearlessly.
