James 5:13
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.
Today’s scripture reminds us to seek God in both suffering and success, and to respond to every situation in life with prayer and praise. Prayer and praise form the foundation of the Christian life. Yet time and again, we neglect these important practices.
In the rush of daily life, we often allow work, family responsibilities, studies, personal struggles and worldly distractions to consume our time and attention. As a result, we slowly drift away from prayer and praise, forgetting to keep God at the centre of our lives. However, God wants us to remain faithful by constantly seeking Him in prayer and praising Him with gratitude. It reveals our confidence and dependence on Him, fills His heart with joy, and magnifies His holy name.
Following Christ does not exempt us from suffering and hardship. Instead of sinking into hopelessness or complaining, let us take our troubles to God in prayer. This verse gently urges us to place our pain and struggles into God’s hands rather than carrying our burdens alone.
In this competitive world, we often strive for success. Yet true success is not found in merely gaining wealth or recognition, but in fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives. If we are not careful, the busyness of life and the desire for worldly success can slowly draw us away from God. In our pursuit of achievement and material comfort, we must guard our hearts and not lose sight of Him.
Therefore, let’s keep God at the centre of our lives, seek His guidance through constant prayer, and offer Him heartfelt thanksgiving and praise. Let’s turn to Him and remain steadfast in all circumstances, drawing closer to Him in both our joy and suffering.
