Fear and Love

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18)

Someone said that fear is one of the most basic emotions we have, it is programmed within our nervous system. It can translate into our need to fight, or flight, it can be interpreted as our survival instinct.

Fear can also be an overwhelming negative feeling that can paralyze us, it can keep us unable to perform, to do anything. “Because fear involves torment.” And what is torment? It is severe physical or mental suffering. We could fear disease, pandemics, hunger, lack of money, and worst of all: death.

The good news? Love casts out all fear! God’s love. There is no fear where there is love! Love sets us free from all kinds of bondages, whether Spiritual or Emotional. “Perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.” And when we are in God, all is good, because God ‘is’ Love! “He” is bigger than any disease, pandemic, catastrophe, the economy, and “He” won over death!

If we must fear something — we should fear God: His Majesty, The King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Maker of All Things Seen and Unseen. Fear Him with awe. For He is the only One owner of all powers! So, let us continue to love Him, to abide in Him, to stay close to Him, to stay close to His Perfect Love. Amen!
