Isaiah 43:2 – “When you pass through the waters I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.”
Our God is truly an amazing and awesome God.
We will face many challenges in our lifetime, not necessarily in the same way the Israelites did when they had to flee from Egypt; or when they were taken into exile to Babylon; or when they were tortured by the Romans.
Waters, rivers, fire, flame, all represent our hardships, afflictions, distress, persecutions, temptations.
But through all these, our God promises to be with us. He tells us to be strong and of a good courage, to fear not, to not be afraid. God promises to be with us as He was with Moses.
We do not need to fear.
The word “fear” appears more than 500 times in the King James Version of the Bible. We must not “fear” anyone or anything. Instead, we must “fear God”, have “reverence for God”.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness…”.
Come what may, our God will go with us through all difficult circumstances we face in our lives. He will not leave us or forsake us. He has a purpose and a plan for us. He is for us and not against us. He is the great I am.
So do not fear — fear not — instead: fear God.
