Psalms 118:1

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

This psalm praises God for His mercy, which endures forever. What a wonderful reason to give thanks to Him! It calls us to examine ourselves and ask a simple question: Do we thank God at all times, even in the midst of rejection, failure, loss, and pain? This can be difficult because of our natural tendency to focus on ourselves.

At times, we fail to see things the way God sees them. Instead, we become focused on our own desires, feelings, and needs. Moreover, when worldly thoughts begin to shape our hearts, we may start following worldly patterns. These patterns can draw us away from God and lead us into sin.

During seasons of pain, disappointment, and failure, gratitude becomes a choice of faith rather than a response to comfort. In these difficult moments, our trust in God is tested and strengthened. So, how do we overcome these struggles? We hold on to the Word of God.

Psalm 113:1 says, “Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord.” When we hold on to God’s Word, it renews our minds, frees our thoughts, and fills our hearts with hope and faith. Furthermore, it gives us strength and direction as we look to the future.

When we make gratitude a daily habit, we gradually learn to praise God in every season. As we continue in faith, God shapes our hearts and renews our minds. And in time, our lives begin to reflect His peace, joy, and steadfast love.
