Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
This verse in the Old Testament talks about the birth of Jesus. Long before Mary and Joseph lived, long before the star and the angels appeared, this was the promise for weary hearts, offering hope that God is near.
In the uncertain world we are living in, where things are ambiguous, people are unpredictable, and relationships feel hopeless, this verse reminds us that God is with us. Not far away in heaven, but right here, in the middle of our ordinary days. In laughter, in despair, in the long wait, in the loneliness, in the highs, lows… everywhere and in every situation: Immanuel.
We are not in the pre-Jesus times, and so, knowing about and waiting for the virgin giving birth might not be applicable to us. But let us be mindful that no matter which season of life we are in, we don’t need a star in the sky or angels to remind us that God is near us every step of the way. The miracle of Immanuel was not a one-time instance. It first happened in the manger, but His presence has never left us ever since. Thank you, Lord, for never leaving us!
When required, we should become like the star and those angels, strengthening our fellow people who are weary and in despair. So we keep this truth close. When joy feels distant, when hope feels small, in every season, every valley, and every sunrise, we hold on to the name that changed everything – God with us.
Wish you a blessed Christmas!
