1 Peter 2:6 – “For it stands in Scripture: ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.'”

The dictionary defines the word ‘cornerstone’ as:

  • an important quality or feature on which a particular thing depends.
  • a stone that forms the base of a corner of a building, joining two walls.

Other synonyms of ‘cornerstone’ include: foundation, base, centerpiece, core, backbone, anchor, etc. It is safe to assume that a cornerstone is crucial for any building. It is a foundation that holds the whole structure together. It is an anchor that keeps the building rooted in the midst of a calamity.

There’s no doubt that as believers, Christ is our cornerstone. But do we truly believe the fact? Do we keep Christ at the core of our day to day activities, or do we relegate Him to only a few minutes in our busy schedules? When storms rock our lives, do we rely on Christ as our anchor, or do we become anxious and worried?

Is Christ the foundation of your life? Do you truly believe that no matter what happens, your foundation will never be shaken? God promises us through His word that when we trust in Him, we will not be put to shame. Let’s take God at His word! Trust in Christ, your Cornerstone. He is all you need to stay secure through the storms of life.
