Living in the New Covenant

Jeremiah 31:33 “ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

Have you ever struggled loving your neighbour? Or not doing the right thing which was simple, but ended up doing something wrong? Well, it is normal to have this nature as we are born of sin and our bodies are attracted towards the things of this world. Paul says in Romans 7:19  “For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.”

The good news is that God knows about our nature and that is the sole reason He sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. He knows we are incapable of redeeming ourselves from the sin in us. But when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, He instantly forgives us.

In today’s verse ,God is speaking through Jeremiah about the new covenant that He will pass on to His children. The old covenant was given at Mount Sinai to the people of Israel through Moses and was written on a tablet of stone. But the new covenant would be written in our hearts for the born again, through Jesus.

Jesus speaks about this in Luke 22:20 “This cup that is poured out  for you is the new covenant in my blood”.  If we have received Jesus Christ as our Savior, we are living in the new covenant and as we grow deeper in our relationship with our Master, the sinful ways and thoughts begin to be replaced by the noble ones. The gospel of Christ is the one that changes hearts and opens our eyes to see the Lord.
