Living by the word of God

Luke 4:4:  And Jesus answered him saying, it is written, that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Man needs bread to live his physical life and he needs spiritual bread, i.e., the word of God for his spiritual life.  Just as how the physical bread is needed for his day to day life, in the same way, God’s word is needed for anybody to live a spiritual life.  God’s word is health and strength to our spirit.

We are made alive spiritually by every word of God.  Meditating on God’s word does our spirit a great help.  The Bible calls a person who meditates on the word of God day and night as blessed.  David said that he has hidden God’s word in his heart so that he will not sin.  God’s word in us encourages us during our trials and temptations.  It is like a two-edged sword or as a dangerous weapon because it has two edges.  It can cut the person who uses it as well as someone else.  If we need to be alive and kicking spiritually, we need to feed on His word.  Use it appropriately on self as well as others.

When the devil comes tempting us, use God’s word as a shield.  He might come with scriptures out of context, but if you know how to use God’s word appropriately, he will take to his heels.  God’s word is like finding green pasture where the sheep and the herd eat to their heart’s content.  Let us take our delight in the word of God and live our spiritual life in full measure making appropriate lifestyle changes where needed with the help of the Holy Spirit.
