Maturity in Christ

Ephesians 4:13-16 – “until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,  so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.  Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,  from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”

According to the scripture, how do we ‘grow up in every way into him who is the head’? Remember, the Bible says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
The Bible gives us three ways:
1- Habituate ourselves to live by the Word – (James 1: 22) “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

2-Be obedient to the Word as priority than running after sacrifices and traditions – (Samuel 15:22) “And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,as in obeying the voice of the Lord?Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.”

3-Live amicably and show love to all – (Hebrews 12:14) “Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.”

When mature, we will want to be like Christ (1 Peter 1:15-16) “but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,  since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

Why do we want to do all this? What benefit is there for them that follow this? The Bible says, (Psalm 92:13) “They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God.”
