Obedience with Undivided Heart

Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart! Psalm 119:2

One of the longest psalms as well as one of several acrostic poems in the Bible is Psalm 119. The anonymous psalmist who wrote this longest psalm pursued refuge from his oppressors and found strength by meditating on God’s Word. This Psalm has 22 sections, each corresponding to a different letter in the Hebrew alphabet. Almost every verse mentions about the obedience to God’s Word. A repetitive meditation on the exquisiteness of God’s Word discloses the blessing of obeying His statutes.

Psalm 119:2 reveals to us a dimension of blessings that are found in not just keeping the statutes of God but seeking him with all our hearts. What if our hearts feel messy, and what if we are really divided in our hearts? On one side, we want to be closer to God and obey His voice through His words; on the other, we are fighting our greatest battle of disobedience in life. How can we solve these two extremes?

Imagine if we lost something that was so precious or valuable that we would put our heart and soul into finding it. What we value determines our urgency to focus on it. When we choose to seek Him diligently, we will find Him and His will in our lives. The love of God finds expression in doing God’s will.

Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will search for me. And when you search for me with all your heart, you will find me”. If there are any areas in our hearts that we are still holding onto to submit to God, let us fix them today. When we know His ways, we respond. The true joy lies on the obedience to God and seek Him with the heart’s passion.

Obedience with an undivided heart and exercising God’s word consistently in every area of our lives will lead us to a blessed life.
