Hebrews 11:16: But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.
Hebrews 11 speaks about the heroes/heroines of faith. They all died in faith, however, they did not receive their promises in full. They did not consider their home on earth a great thing. They desired a better country and that better place is heaven where Jesus has prepared for them a city. God is not ashamed to be called as their God either.
How many of us will God be happy with when He sees us on the last day? Where are we going? There are only two places to spend eternity. One is heaven and the other one is hell. Are we assured that we sure are going to heaven? On what is our heart set ? Is it set upon acquiring land, buying jewellery, building a house, driving the most expensive car, having the smartest partner, etc.? Jesus once said ,”For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also.” The saints in the beginning of this chapter exhibited their faith in God even when the situation in their life was like it was all over. They never gave up on God because they knew they trusted in the one who could save them. What are we desiring?
God is busy preparing a mansion for all of us. What are we preparing our hearts for? Stop being worldly minded and competitive. Let us nourish ourselves with the word of God and reset our priorities in life. Let us seek God earnestly and live a life here on earth with the assurance that we indeed are going to inhabit our respective heavenly accommodation soon.
