2 Peter 1:4

By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

In today’s verse, Peter explains that God’s precious promises enable us to share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. They give us access to the holiness, character, and spiritual authority found in Christ Jesus, the only begotten Son of the Father.

At first glance, the phrase “partakers of the divine nature” may sound impossible. How can ordinary, imperfect people participate in anything divine? Yet this is exactly the invitation God extends to believers. To partake in the divine nature does not mean becoming gods over our lives. Rather, it means being transformed to reflect God’s character and display the nature of Christ in a fallen world.

To reign as co-heirs in the kingdom of God carries great responsibility. Holiness plays an important role because it aligns our hearts with the will of our heavenly Father. Without the indwelling and guidance of the Holy Spirit, it is impossible to truly please God or reflect His holiness.

But God does not remain distant from His people like a judge waiting to condemn them for past mistakes. Instead, His heart is to dwell within us, transform us, and draw us into close fellowship with Him. He empowers His children by His Spirit to walk in holiness, spiritual authority, and victory over the powers of darkness.

The promises of God reveal His faithfulness to the covenant of love established through the sacrifice of Christ Jesus. We can rely on the power of God’s promises. They are His gifts of grace that enable us to thrive in His presence – today and always.
