Revelation 3:5

He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

In Revelation 3:5, Jesus speaks to believers about overcoming. To “overcome” means to remain faithful without compromise despite temptation, fear, pressure, sin, discouragement, or spiritual laziness. As children of God, we do not overcome by our own strength alone. Christ has already given us authority through His victory on the cross. We overcome through faith, obedience, prayer, and by remaining connected to Him daily.

Jesus promises that overcomers will be “clothed in white garments.” In the Bible, white garments symbolize purity, righteousness, victory, and being made clean before God. This connects beautifully with Revelation 7:14, where believers are described as having “washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” What sin stained, Christ has redeemed.

Jesus also says He will not blot out their names from the Book of Life. The Book of Life represents eternal belonging to God. Interestingly, this creates a beautiful connection between the Book of Genesis and the Book of Revelation. In Genesis, humanity began in fellowship with God in the garden. In Revelation, God restores eternal fellowship with those who remain faithful to Him.

Finally, Jesus says, “I will confess his name before My Father.” What a powerful thought! Heaven acknowledges those who openly acknowledge Christ. Sometimes in everyday life – whether at an office gathering, among friends, or in social settings – we may feel tempted to hide our faith in order to fit in. But true overcomers are not ashamed of belonging to Jesus publicly. The One who knows your name in Heaven is worthy of being acknowledged on earth.
