Reflecting Love

1 John 4:8 (KJV)
He that loves not knows not God; for God is love.

The Spirit of God is the Spirit of love. The love of God is not the outworking of human emotions instead it is the kind of love mentioned in 1 Corinthians 13:4-9. The love of our Lord Jesus Christ toward us is good-natured, patient, gentle, tender and affectionate. God’s love wishes well for us at all times and is quick to forgive.

Since the Lord Jesus Christ loved us in this way, we as His children are morally obligated to reflect His love to others. We must be kind, gentle and generous, doing good to all men, even to enemies. We must be able to restrain our anger and not be in haste to revenge.

The more we are willing to surrender ourselves to the Lord Jesus Christ, the more the Spirit of love will enable us to reflect His love to others. We are like the moon; it shines because it reflects the light of the sun. Our daily life reflects our relationship with God. The closer we are to God the easier it is to love others.
