Temple of God

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16

God is Holy. So is His creation and His dwelling place. When God created mankind, He made them holy and blameless. Then sin entered, polluting our inner being and separating us from God.

God loves to dwell among His children. But God and sin cannot live together. That is why God commanded Moses to build Him a sanctuary. This sanctuary was not only beautiful but holy. So holy that when Uzzah reached out to steady the ark from falling, he was immediately struck and killed.

When Jesus came, He began constructing a more incorruptible temple. A temple within us. He began purifying our hearts with repentance and washed away our sin with His blood, making us holy so God could dwell in us. The way the cloud covered the tent of meeting and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle Moses built, the same way God’s Holy Spirit surrounds us and His presence dwells in us. He loves to go where we go and stay where we stay. He is interested in how we treat our bodies because it is His.

Made of mud, the only reason this body has much value is that God breathed His Holy breath into it. Our bodies are not our own. So before you do anything to your body – be it to inflict pain or pleasure, remember, this body belongs to God. It is His dwelling place, and He calls it holy. Your body- the temple of the Spirit of God, is where heaven meets earth. You have a great responsibility. Walk worthy of it, glorifying God with your body that brings knees to bow and tongues to confess that Jesus is Lord of all.
