1 Peter 5:10

May the God of all grace who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

God has promised us an end to suffering. Though pain and hardship are a reality in this life, they are temporary. For those who place their faith in Jesus, suffering will not last forever. Peter reminds us that pain, persecution, and trials are part of a believer’s journey. Yet, eternal salvation assures us that suffering will one day cease completely.

Our God is the God of grace. Unearned favor is freely given through our Lord Jesus Christ. He has saved us from the penalty of sin, which is eternal separation from God. And we receive it through faith in Jesus. By His grace, He has also called us to share in His glory forever. That is the destiny of every believer.

Peter mentions four things that God will do for believers:

  • God will restore us by perfecting what was broken in us.
  • He will make us strong.
  • He will make us firm.
  • He will establish us.

We may feel weak now, or sense ourselves becoming worn out and discouraged. We may watch as opportunities fade and prospects in this life shrink away. But when God calls us to our eternal home, He will restore every lost thing of value, and so much more. He will make us strong and secure forever.

Let us pray and claim this promise for ourselves as we put our faith in Jesus. Also, let’s pray that we may live with hope, knowing that our eternity with Jesus is secure. Amen!
