The God of Provision

Exodus 23:25 NKJV

“You shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.”

Today’s verse is a promise God gave the Israelites when they were journeying in the wilderness. Like most promises in the Bible, it’s preceded by a command. It’s similar to the law of sowing and reaping. If the Israelites served the Lord, He would bless their food and water, and remove sickness from them.

Sadly, we know that the Israelites did not keep their end of the bargain. Despite God providing them with daily manna (Exodus 16:4) and water from the rock (Exodus 17:6), they constantly grumbled about the delicious food they’d left behind in Egypt (Numbers 11:5). Instead of being grateful for God’s deliverance, provision, and protection, they continued railing against His will and the vast majority of them did not reach the Promised Land.

As children of God who’ve experienced the love and provision of our Savior, what is our response to Him? When we choose to exalt Him as Lord over our lives and dedicate our lives to serving Him wholeheartedly, we have the assurance that He will be our Healer and Provider. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the cross, we’ve become part of His family. We can hold on to every promise God has given us knowing He’ll never go back on His Word.
