Psalm 145: 2-3

Every day I will bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable.

Who could pen such words about anyone except someone who knows the other well enough? So deep is the understanding of these words- ‘for the Lord is great and greatly to be praised.’

God does not lie; all His promises, He WILL carry through. He is the Faithful One who has not changed and will not; the Rock of Ages, trustworthy in every circumstance. Even when the violent, stormy gales threaten to bring in a storm, He can be your Fortress. When the wild waves lash against your boat, intimidating you, be at peace and know WHO is with you. When you feel oppressed and discouraged, He can be your Stronghold and Refuge. Even when dark clouds of confusion and doubt gather heavy around you, make Him your Lighthouse who will safely guide and illuminate your path.

David had enough and more reasons to praise and bless the Lord ‘every day.’ He saw the faithfulness of the Lord, tasted His goodness, walked in His grace and lived in His love. David didn’t have an easy life. He began as a simple shepherd boy whose appearance and stature didn’t qualify to be kingly. When he wanted to go against Goliath, king Saul dissuaded him for being too young and puny. As David began to grow, he drew the jealousy of king Saul who was desperate to kill him. He coveted Uriah’s wife Bathsheba, for which he lost his child to illness. His other son Absalom too, stood against him. He suffered the vengeance of his captain, Joab. David was deeply emotional and didn’t shy from expressing his feelings, especially through Psalms.

We see that though David had a tumultuous life, he had only rich praises for the Most High. May we have hearts as sincere and pure that bless the Lord in all circumstances.
