The Fundamentals of God’s Heart

Psalm 145:8 The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy.

There are four fundamental characteristics of the Lord mentioned here-graciousness, compassion, patience and mercy. If we meditate on this verse, we could reach the deepest recesses of God’s heart.

The heart of God is where His GRACE abounds without measure; the grace, given to us in Christ Jesus (2 Tim 1:9). 2 Cor. 9:8 says that He makes ALL grace, i.e., every favour and every earthly blessing, overflow in our lives. In ALL circumstances, we will have complete sufficiency in Him. This grace would then flow from our lives into the lives of those around us.

The true meaning of COMPASSION is to suffer together. A situation where you see someone else suffering and you are compelled to do something about it. To reach out and help. Just like Isaiah 49:10 says, “He who has compassion on them will guide them and lead them beside springs of water.”

1 Tim 1:16 explains His PATIENCE. Paul tells us that Christ Jesus displayed His immense patience in him, the worst of sinners, as an example for those who believe in Him as Paul did. The Lord is patient, not wanting anyone to perish but waiting for them to come to repentance(2 Peter 3:9).

His MERCY triumphs over His judgement(James 2:3). He has saved us not because of anything righteous we have done but because of His rich mercies that are new every morning.

May we then revel in this revelation of WHO our God is and experience His LOVE every moment of our existence!!!
