The Greatest Help

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever. John 14:16 (NKJV)

For well over three years the Lord Jesus Christ had moved in and out among His disciples, living alongside His little band of followers every moment of the day and night.

As the stark truth that their master was indeed leaving them, to return to the Father in heaven, was starting to penetrate the minds of the disciples, Lord Jesus Christ once again introduced the Person of the Holy Spirit. He is called the Helper, Comforter and whom Jesus promised: “would be with you forever – the Spirit of truth…”

The word ‘Helper’ translates the ancient Greek word parakletos. This word has the idea of someone called to help someone else, and it could refer to an advisor, a legal defender, a mediator, an intercessor, a counselor and strength. The Advocate is promised ‘for ever’. The Spirit once given will not be withdrawn and is promised to all those who have received the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. We don’t ever have to walk alone or be on our own.

Thank You Father for sending the Holy Spirit to be our greatest help and gift, to come alongside us in every difficult situation that we may have to face in this life. Thank You that You are with us and in us through Your Spirit – to guide and empower us to greater victory. Help us to listen to Your voice and submit to Your directions day by day.We pray this in our Lord Jesus Christ’s name , Amen!
