The Harp of Your Everyday Life

Psalm 98:5

Sing to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of a psalm.

We can certainly take this verse literally. There is a deep beauty in singing to the Lord with an actual harp and the sound of a psalm. But today, let’s also look at this invitation symbolically. The book of Romans reminds us that God has given each of us different gifts according to His grace (Romans 12:6). The Scripture also tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

This means God designed each of us to be a vessel of praise and an instrument of worship. We are meant to worship the Lord through our natural gifts and abilities, using the “harp” of our physical bodies, our daily lives, our routines, and our vocations. Furthermore, our everyday lives should resound with the “sound of a psalm” – an active, outward expression of our inner devotion.

Traditional hymns, choruses, and songs of worship are absolutely essential, but let’s not limit our worship to Sunday mornings. At the end of the day, every good thing, tangible or intangible, comes from the Lord. Let’s worship the King through our thoughts, our actions, our daily tasks, our education, and our careers.

The Bible encourages us to rejoice in the Lord at all times. So, don’t compartmentalise your worship. Allow your whole life – everything you are, everything you have, and everything you do – to become the very harp that proclaims God’s praise and reflects His glory.
