The lamp and the light

Psalm 119:105:  Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.  (KJV).

God’s word is described or is compared to both a lamp to our feet as well as a light to our path.  Lamps are very useful in dark and treacherous paths.  They will keep us from stumbling in darkness.  Light guides us in our path, it helps us take the right direction when stranded on crossroads.

Life has so many things to offer to us.  When we are surrounded by darkness in life and are overwhelmed by life’s stressors, God’s word will act as a lamp and keeps us from making wrong decisions which are often made by accidental stumblings.  His word also acts as a light to our path in such a way that He will keep us safe from all kinds of dangers that lurk in dark places.  His word when hidden in our hearts will keep us safe from all kinds of wicked schemes and plans of the devil.  When we learn to stand upon the word of God and learn to derive strength from it everyday, wicked forces will be defeated.  God’s word is indeed a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.

God’s word will help us in making the right choices and also will help us in choosing the right direction for our life.  It is the Holy Spirit who does the work of opening our minds and hearts to the word of God.  He will help us understand God through the scriptures.
