Psalm 45:6 – “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.”
Leaders have the influence to make or break the lives of those they lead. Good leadership breeds excellence, but corrupt leadership builds discontent and cynicism. It’s said that many people leave companies because they’re not happy with their immediate leadership. Even if we are leaders ourselves, we also come under managers, bosses, company heads, and government authorities.
God has given earthly leaders limited power over us. But let’s not forget who is over them. Our Lord Jesus Christ is above all powers, principalities, rulers, and leaders. Earthly leaders have limited terms, but our Lord reigns forever. We might be subject to worldly leaders now but when our time on earth is done, we’re answerable to the King of kings and Lord of lords. Therefore, we must hold ourselves to the heavenly standard we find in the Bible.
The laws of the land might change from day to day, depending on who’s in power. But the Word of God is constant always. While a particular act might be lawful in our country, it’s essential that we pass it through the filter of God’s Word before we take action. Will we fall and make mistakes? Absolutely! But we can also rely on God’s grace to forgive us when we truly repent and turn away from habits that displease Him.
As we go about our day, may we remember that our Lord reigns forever. When our time on earth is done and we stand in front of His scepter of righteousness, may we be found worthy – not by our works but by the redeeming power of God’s love that was manifested on the cross.
