The Shield of Favour

  • Psalms 5:12: For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favour You will surround him as with a shield.

In a world where “the fear of being a coward” is among the top 10 most common causes for human distress, the Lord’s shield of favour has never been more necessary. When the favour of the Lord is in effect, we can rest assured that no evil will overtake us because God’s favour is infinitely more potent than any scheme of the devil.

After David knocked Goliath on the head, he spent his time in Saul’s palace, where he entertained with his harp. Often, Saul tried to kill David, but the favour of the Lord, which surrounded him like a shield, protected him from Saul’s ploys to end his life.

The Lord was pleased with David for his upright attitude and blessed him by crowning him the king of Israel.

From a forgotten shepherd boy to the most renowned king of Israel, God blessed David’s righteous conduct with the ultimate promotion in life.

When the world resorts to unrighteous means for worldly success, do we follow suit, or do we stand out?

The unrighteous will constantly live in a bubble of fear, but the righteous are shielded from fear by the favour of God.

Having heard the life story of his earthly father and the eternal favour of his Heavenly Father, Solomon wrote, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run in to it and they are saved.” – Proverbs 18:10
