1 Corinthians 6:19 – “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?”
Imagine, for a moment, that God says He’s coming to visit you at home? What would your reaction be? At first you might be doubtful or surprised, but once you realise it’s true, you’d rush back home and immediately spruce it up for God’s visit. I’m sure every believer would act in a similar manner. But somehow many of us neglect the current home of the Lord – our bodies.
When you accept Jesus as the Saviour of your soul, the Holy Spirit comes down to dwell in your body. The Bible says your body is a ‘temple’ of the Holy Spirit. A quick look at the Old Testament shows how much care was taken to keep the temple of God holy and suitable for His presence to abide. While we no longer follow the rituals of the Old Testament, we are still responsible for our bodies.
We should be filled with humility that the God of the Universe would choose our imperfect bodies to live in. We should strive to be good stewards of the health God has blessed us with and remember He paid the price for our life. Our bodies are no longer our own – they belong to Jesus. Let’s be mindful of this fact and glorify God through our body.
“For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” – 1 Corinthians 6:20
