Psalm 125:1 ESV

Those who trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.

Mount Zion is a metaphor for those who trust in the Lord. The high hill on which Jerusalem and the Temple stood symbolized strength, permanence, and security. The psalmist uses Mount Zion to illustrate the stability that comes from placing our confidence in God.

When we are in deep trouble or facing a painful situation, trusting God can be difficult. The Bible shows that even faithful people experienced struggles like us. But today’s verse highlights God’s unending faithfulness and protection, and gives us the courage to face hard times.

Human strength and earthly security eventually fade away, but God remains constant. His unchanging character and promises sustain those who trust in Him. Rather than placing our confidence in shifting circumstances, it is good to anchor our faith in God’s steadfast love and power. Psalm 62:2 says, “He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”

We are reminded and encouraged to trust God fully, especially when everything in life feels uncertain or overwhelming. Our faith may be shaken at times, plans may fail, and challenges may seem greater than our strength. Rather than focusing on situations or people who bring us down, we can find comfort in knowing that our security rests in Jesus.

God is with us, and He asks us to abide in Him. He goes before us and remains with us in our struggles. God’s presence sustains us. He fills our hearts with courage and confidence, and enables us to stand firm in every season of life.
