Isaiah 43:2 – “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”
Fire and water are both essential elements for life on earth. And yet, they can both cause catastrophic damage when unleashed. While we may never have to actually walk through a fiery furnace or a flooded river, we do face circumstances that threaten to wreck our lives. Stress, sickness, worries, insufficient finances, broken relationships and intense anxiety can overwhelm and consume us.
Yet God promises that when we pass through fire and water, we will not have to walk alone. We will not be burned in the furnace of our afflictions, or drowned in the high tide of our hectic schedules. Isaiah 43:16 says that God will make a way for us in the sea, a path in the mighty waters.
Why would God do that? Isaiah 43:3- 4 sheds some light. God will save you because:
- He is the Lord, your God, your Savior.
- You are precious in His eyes.
- He loves you.
Do you feel overwhelmed with the current state of your life? Turn your eyes away from your afflictions and focus on Jesus. He saved you from darkness and brought you into the light. Will He not deliver you from the fiery trial you’re currently facing? Just as He stepped into the furnace with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, Jesus is with you right now. He will hold your hand and lead you out unharmed… You just need to hold on to Him.
