Vine and the branches

John 15:5:  I am the vine, ye are the branches; He that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.

Jesus said He is the vine, and we are the branches.  We have to remain in Him or abide in Him to bear much fruit in our lives.  We can do nothing without Him.

Jesus wants us to abide in Him.  What is the meaning of abide?  It means to remain.  We have to remain in Christ.  It means we have to have our union in Him.  Our very source of existence should be Christ.  It is through Him that we derive strength and nourishment to grow and to spread out and bear fruits.  Unless a branch remains in a vine, it cannot bear fruit.  In the same way, unless a christian remains in Christ, we cannot be producing any spiritual fruit.  God wants us to produce spiritual fruits in our life.  The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, and so forth.  As long as we have the nature of Christ, we will be like Christ in our word and deed.  The world today is looking at God’s people.  How we behave and carry ourselves in the world depends upon how much of Christ-like nature we are displaying everyday in our lives.

Therefore, remain in Christs firmly rooted and grounded in Him.  A tree is known by its fruits.  In the same way, a child of God is known by the fruits he or she bears in life.  Give God the glory by living a life that is worth living for.
