Psalm 103:2-3
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.
In this psalm, David praises God as he recalls all that He has done for him. God forgave David’s sins and healed his illnesses. David discovered God’s goodness through his personal experience.
David speaks to himself and urges his soul to “bless the Lord.” This doesn’t imply that David is in a greater position to bless God. “Barak”, the Hebrew word for “bless”, can carry the idea of bowing down or kneeling to show respect and honor. As we read this psalm, we too are reminded of what God has done for us and encouraged to do the same.
Why does God do good for us? Because it is His nature. God is the epitome of righteousness. He is also abounding in love, graciousness, and mercy.
Thank God every day, every time you remember what He has done for you. Especially, when you go through challenges, recall all that God has done for you in the past and thank Him. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
As David says, our God forgives all our iniquities when we go to Him with a repentant heart. He heals all our diseases. There is not one ailment that God cannot heal. Trust Him and His sovereignty when you pray for healing.
God redeems the repentant from eternity in hell. He is slow to anger, merciful, and works righteousness and justice for the oppressed. What does God ask of us in return? All He expects is that we fear Him and obey His Word (Psalm 103:17-18).
