Luke 6:38
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
Who doesn’t like to receive, right-whether its gifts, surprises, money, love, acknowledgment, encouragement, etc. But the most precious gift of all is what was given by our Lord, hanging on the cross of Calvary-the gift of forgiveness.
Often we think of the context here of giving as money. But in verse 24 of the same chapter, Christ Jesus said, “How very sad for those of you who are rich in this life only.” From this it is clear that the Lord was referring to something more than just material wealth. In verse 37, He says, “judge and condemn not, only forgive.” Therefore He was pointing us towards what He Himself had displayed in love at the cross.
Beloved, if you want to experience true prosperity, begin with forgiving and don’t stop there. Forgive generously as you have been forgiven. Remember the Lord ’s Prayer which says, “Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us,” This is what the Lord Jesus meant when He said that your measurement of generosity will become the measurement of your return.
What a blessing it is to live a life where you hold absolutely no grudges, hatred, malice, anger, resentment or bitterness towards anyone, including those who have wronged you. If you are still holding on to any thread of any of these, confess this to your Lord right now and receive His forgiveness which is unbound. Ask Him to help you release those who you need to release. Name the person, name the hurt and name your pain…then release them all at His feet. Pray that He would fill you with love, compassion and faith instead. May you exhibit the same forgiveness that you’ve received, in Jesus’ Name!
