The reward of humility and reverence

Proverbs 22:4

“By humility and the fear of the Lord Are riches and honor and life.”

What is the secret of honorable life?
Humility and fear of the Lord result in an honorable life.

Humility is a firm acknowledgment of our absolute need for the Lord in our day-to-day lives. The fear of the Lord is respect and reverence towards our God. Proverbs 11:2 says wisdom comes with humility and Proverbs 9:10 says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. So, both result in the same blessings i.e. Those who humbly fear the Lord by admiring, respecting Him, and placing their devotion in Him also gain His perspectives and values. They hate what He hates and love what He loves. Hence, it makes way for a rich, honorable life.

Luke 18: 9-14 records Jesus teaching a parable about Pharisee and tax collector. Both went to pray in the temple, we know tax collector demonstrated humility and reverence to God and went back justified before God.

Humbleness and reverence will surely result in the abundant life that Christ promised in John 10:10. Therefore, let us seek to grow in humility and endless devotion to Him so that we can experience God’s richness, honor, and life always.
