Isaiah 55:11
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please.
Isaiah 55 was written toward the end of the Babylonian exile, when the Persian Empire was preparing to conquer Babylon. God was about to deliver His people and bring them back to their homeland, yet many Israelites were too discouraged and hopeless to believe that restoration was possible. Through Isaiah 55:11, God reassured them that His promise of rescue would surely come to pass.
Today, we live in a world where promises are often broken, and words can easily lose their value. Human commitments are affected by changing circumstances, emotions, and limitations. As a result, we may sometimes view God’s promises through the same lens. Like the Israelites, we can become discouraged and wonder whether God will truly fulfill what He has spoken.
In Isaiah 55:10, God compares His Word to rain from heaven that waters the earth. Just as rain nourishes the ground and causes plants to grow and bear fruit, God’s Word (Logos) always accomplishes His intended purpose. It never returns empty or ineffective. His plans operate beyond human understanding and are always fulfilled in His perfect timing.
Since God’s Word has a 100% success rate, we can rest in His faithfulness today. If He promised to give us peace that surpasses understanding, we can be sure it’s on the way. He promised never to leave us nor forsake us, so we know He is with us even now. Our lives are not accidents, and our current struggles are not without purpose. God has spoken, and His Word will accomplish everything He has ordained.
