Ephesians 6:10-11

Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Anyone who plans on joining the army has to go through a recruitment process wherein they are checked for the required medical, educational, moral and physical levels. Though there are set standards, they are very achievable for the common man. However, the goal is to increase the overall fitness levels of all recruits through rigorous and constant training.

Similarly, in the spiritual, Paul teaches us that there are spiritual battles that we will encounter in the journey of our lives. The accuser is continually strategizing and planning on how to demoralize, defunct and destroy you. Before a soldier is asked to handle a gun, he is trained to strengthen his body and mind, which is why Paul encourages us to strengthen ourselves in the Lord by being empowered through our union with Him.

‘Might’ refers to the authority, resources and energy of the Lord Himself. We are to draw strength from this powerful Source. We need to exercise this power of the Lord in our lives on a daily basis. The more we exercise, the more His power is infused into our lives, the stronger we get. Then, we need to put on the complete armour that the Lord has provided for us. As we do this, we will stand victorious with the force of His explosive power flowing through our very being-the power of the Holy Spirit magnified in our lives.
