2 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Faith is the true hallmark of a believer in Christ Jesus. We ought to be people who are recognised for our faith rather than only our achievements.
Oftentimes, the dreams we carry in our hearts require faith to bring them to life. Our faith may be as small as a mustard seed or as great as that of the Canaanite woman (Matthew 15:21-28), whose faith Jesus Himself commended. But no matter the measure, it all starts with faith.
Hebrews 11:1 wonderfully defines the concept of faith: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” For believers, the journey starts here. Every dream of ours is realised when we apply this truth. We need to start believing, and our belief should shape our actions and words.
For example, if we believe prosperity, peace, or healing is God’s portion for us, then our behaviour and speech must align with our belief. We cannot speak of lack while expecting abundance. We cannot carry the countenance of defeat while believing for a victory. Instead, we must embrace thankfulness and speak God’s promises over what we desire as if they are already our portion. This is not some worldly manifestation trick, but a Biblical principle: to hold on to the substance of things hoped for and to possess evidence through our words of the things that are yet unseen.
As we practise this, we will learn to put faith above sight. One day, our sight will see our faith come alive. Everything we possess today was once a heartfelt and faith-filled prayer, so never underestimate the power of prayer and acts of faith. And in time, we will hold our prayers in our hands. Amen.
