God of Rest

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters Psalm 23:2 KJV

The above verse, gives a whole new meaning to the term “REST”.  It does not refer to the physical rest or the kind of rest we take due of tiredness in the body. This can be easily defeated and overcome by a good night`s sleep and relaxation.

This is not the rest that God has promised us in the above psalm. He promises us rest in the mind and the soul. To be totally and completely sheltered from the occurrences around our surroundings. God promises to look after us so beautifully that the situations in our lives cannot dictate our spirit.  The peace and rest that comes from God is one of a kind and surpasses all human understanding.

With everything that is happening today around the globe, can we even imagine ourselves lying down in green pastures and beside still waters? It’s unimaginable isn’t it? Impossible to say the least. But then again the Lord that we worship, the God of the Holy Bible, the God of Israel, the one who is the alpha and the omega is the Lord of impossibilities. We are so privileged that we are all partakers of His rest and peace as children of God.

The verse in 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” truly describes the character of our Lord.  He does not only take care of us, but also gives us inexplicable rest and peace. Let us make a commitment today that we will not take any burden upon ourselves but cast it all on Him and rest in Him.
