Just be still

Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Busyness has become the norm these days. It doesn’t matter if you are a student, homemaker, businessman or salaried employee – one thing we all have in common is that we are all busy. We add more items to our to-do lists, and cram more activities into our overflowing lives and then wonder why we don’t have the peace or joy the Bible promises us.

Well, we could experience true joy and lasting peace if we would take some time everyday to just be still and know our God. Jesus was a busy person. He had a lot to do in his 3 years of ministry on earth. But even He took time to meet with His Father on a daily basis. Are our lives so full that we don’t have the time to be still? Then there are those days when we do sit for quiet time but our smartphones, social media, the latest world news, things to do at work, and worries threaten to blot out the sacredness of our time alone with our Maker.

Yes, we can commune with God anywhere at any time during our day. But the time we spend quietly at His feet, adoring Him, learning from Him and laying our burdens at His feet plays an important part in our spiritual walk. As we step into a new week, would you make a decision to spend a few minutes each day just being still in the presence of God?
