Who’s building your house?

Psalm 127:1 – “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”

We are all actively trying to build something. It might be an education, a family, a career, a bank balance, a relationship… Some of us might even be trying to build up our personal character or develop some good habits. Irrespective of what we are trying to build in our lives, we need to remember that all our efforts will be in vain unless the Lord is beside us helping us along.

Too often we think we can do it on our own. We start off really well, but start losing steam halfway through. That’s the problem when we rely on our own wisdom and strength. The verses above remind us that unless the Lord builds, we will be laboring in vain. We don’t want our efforts wasted to be, do we?

Take some time to think of those areas in your life that you’re trying to develop on your own. Surrender it to the Lord and allow Him to be the architect. He will build something beautiful, even if all that remains is ruins. When you feel you can’t pick up another brick, He will give you the strength to go on. When you face impossible hurdles, He will lift you up and take you over to the other side. Don’t try to build it on your own. Commit it to Jesus and behold the beauty He will help you create with your life.
