Know What to Say

Luke 21:15

For I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.

Don’t you wish all the words you spoke were full of wisdom and able to persuade and convince people of your thoughts and ideas? How influential would that be, and what an impact you would have on whoever heard you? Words filled with wisdom – not your own, but divine wisdom?

Many of the Bible heroes experienced this: Moses, Stephen, Peter, Paul and so many others. Not because of their own eloquence or knowledge, but because of the power behind those spoken words: the power of God. Jesus said “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”(Luke 21:34). Only God can make such a statement, that everything He says, everything that comes out of His mouth, will never pass away, because His words are eternal.

We too can become a channel to speak wisdom into our generation. Our words when inspired by the Holy Spirit can have a supernatural impact on people; our words can bring hope and healing; reassurance; they can quiet anger and remove anxiety.

“Speaking harshly is like a piercing sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”(Proverbs 12:18). “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh tongue stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.”(Proverbs 15:1-2).

So use your words wisely; use your tongue to speak life, forgiveness, healing, to bless others and to spread the Good News of the Gospel.
