Matthew 17:20

…if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move…

Faith is the most essential ingredient in the recipe for incredible miracles. It is so potent that our Lord Jesus spoke of mountains being moved, with faith as tiny as that of a mustard seed. When this power is harnessed and planted in the fertility of God’s word, it grows into a shrub that is larger than all garden plants and produces seeds of faith that can change the lives of many.

But, it all starts with a seed!

Peter was of little faith during his initial walk with the Lord. Remember the storm that kicked up over the lake, while they were crossing over? Jesus was fast asleep, and this agitated Peter and the other disciples, as they were probably saying their last prayers in anticipation of the end. Jesus woke up and calmed the storm with just his words. Miraculous!

Sometime later, Jesus walked on water and Peter wanted to follow suit. Peter’s faith had already taken root by this time. This, surely, was the only reason for him to step out of the boat, on to the water.  As long as he kept his eyes on Jesus, the water felt like solid ground. But, as soon as his eyes shifted, he showed the others why he was called the rock, as he started sinking like one.

Over time, Peter’s faith grew to such an extent that he told the lame man at the temple’s gate to get up and walk, for he had no silver or gold to give him. But, he had an infinitely greater gift. The gift of faith!

Faith is not something that is granted in full measure at birth. We must learn to harness and nurture it with baby steps, until we’re truly ready to take the leap of faith.
