Psalm 150:2
“Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His excellent greatness!”
Many of the psalms were written by David during some of the most difficult seasons of his life. While fleeing from Saul, who sought to take his life, David often cried out to God in deep distress. Yet something remarkable stands out in his writings; most of his psalms end in praise. No matter how troubled he was, David always returned to worship.
In fact, the final psalms focus almost entirely on praising God for who He is and for the mighty works He has done. This reveals an important spiritual truth: praise is not only a response when things go well; it is a discipline that strengthens our faith.
Praising God shifts our focus from our problems to His greatness. It reminds us that God is still in control and worthy of worship in every circumstance.
Praising God transforms our lives in two important ways:
• It releases God’s supernatural power in us
When we praise God despite our circumstances, we declare our trust in His presence and provision. Praise reminds us that God is sovereign and worthy of honor. Scripture says, “through Him all things were made” (John 1:3). As we focus on His greatness, our faith grows, and His strength works within us.
• It makes us humble before God
Praise places God at the center of our lives and removes our pride. In worship, we surrender our fears and struggles into His hands. God then begins to work in ways beyond our understanding. As Philippians 1:6 assures us, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion”.
So, let us learn from David and praise God at all times – in distress, in waiting, and in celebration.
